High School Students

Taking HACC Courses While in High School

HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, is the college of choice for students seeking to complete college-level courses while still in high school.

HACC provides an inclusive, accessible and accredited learning experience. High school students can earn college credits while completing their requirements for a high school diploma and matriculate to HACC or other colleges of their choice after graduating from high school.

There are two options for high school juniors and seniors:

  • College in the High School
  • Dual Enrollment

SOAR Career and technical education (CTE) students at approved career and technical education centers may earn college credit for their career programs taught at their high school and continued at HACC.

Dual Enrollment/College in the High School Tuition 2024-25

Most HACC courses are three credits. Students can confirm bills and make payment via MyHACC – Registration/Records. Student bills are not mailed home. Retroactive credits will not be awarded.

High School Student Type Cost Per Credit Cost for a Three-Credit Class
Dual Enrollment $175 $525
College in the High School $83.50 $250.50

Many high schools across HACC’s 11-county region participate in Dual Enrollment or College in the High School. Please contact your high school counselor to determine if your school participates.

College in the High School Dual Enrollment
HACC’s College in the High School (CHS) Program allows students to earn college credit for HACC courses taught by their high school instructors at their high school during the school day. High school students may enroll in HACC courses to earn college credits while still in high school. Dual enrollment courses are taught at a HACC campus or online.

Steps to Apply

The same Admissions application needs to be completed for Dual Enrollment or College in the High School classes. (If you are taking both a Dual Enrollment and College in the High School course, you only need to complete one application.)

  1. First, check with your school counselor to see if a HACC Application Day has been scheduled. At HACC Application Days, a HACC admissions professional comes to your school to walk you through the admissions process.
  2. Next, create an account online and apply to HACC. Select “Dual Enrollment” as the academic program (even if applying to the College in the High School Program). Be sure to select the correct entry term when you apply. The entry term is the semester you intend to start classes at HACC.
    • Fall = August-December
    • Winter = December/January
    • Spring = January-May
    • Summer = May-August

  3. If you would like a parent or guardian to contact HACC on your behalf, you must file a Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) release. This form can be found in your myHACC, and it is called authorization to release information form.

Students can add parent or guardian information on their HACC application or request a form from the Welcome Center at onestopwc@hacc.edu. If HACC doesn’t have a FERPA release on file for you, HACC cannot release your student information to a parent or guardian, regardless of your age. Learn more about FERPA here →

  4. Complete and submit the Signature Page Form. The signature page is required to ensure all parties (student, parent or guardian and high school counselor) agree to a student’s participation in dual enrollment with HACC. The signature page is not a dual enrollment application.

A direct link to the signature page is in the student’s dual enrollment application.

  5. Submit your high school transcript. A high school transcript can be:
    • Uploaded and attached to the signature page by your school counselor
    • Uploaded in the HACC application portal
    • Emailed to admissionsrecords@hacc.edu

  6. Activate your HAWKMail email address and myHACC Portal. Your acceptance email will be sent three to five business days after you complete the steps above to the email address you included in your application.
