Our General Motors Technician Trainee I certificate is designed an apprenticeship-type curriculum to serve your educational goals whether you are a high school and/or career and technology school graduate, are already employed or are a new student seeking employment in a GM dealership or AC/Delco independent shop.

This certificate is a fast-track to the skills you need to gain entry-level employment and advance your career within the General Motors automotive arena.

Our one-year certificate is structured where you take 7-week courses and then complete a co-operative work experience at an approved General Motors Dealership or AC/Delco Independent shop for another 7-weeks.

Upon completion of this certificate, you're prepared to:

  • Work as a factory-trained Automotive Technician at a GM dealership or an AC/Delco Independent shop
  • Perform maintenance, inspection and light repairs on GM vehicles
  • Complete Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification exams
  • Complete the Pennsylvania State Emissions Inspector and Safety Inspector License exams

You also complete the PA State Safety Inspector and Emission Inspector certifications during the early Spring semester and complete your full certificate, with one final course, during the Summer semester.

Please note that this certificate is a selective-entry degree. This means that admission into the college does not guarantee admission into the certificate. Specific admissions criteria must be met:

  • A passing grade on a mechanical aptitude test
  • Possession of a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License

You will need to contact the Faculty Program Supervisor to schedule an appointment to review all of the necessary entrance requirements. Please reach out to cars@hacc.edu to schedule an interview and to set-up the Mechanical Aptitude Test.
