Are you an analytical person and have an interest in the technical aspects of buildings? Do you have a keen eye for details and a desire to work with computers and construction blueprints? Then, our Associate in Applied Science (AAS) in architecture is your first step to a position in the architecture, construction, or engineering fields!

Our AAS program in architecture is designed to prepare students with the skills they need to find employment or transfer to a four-year institution and obtain a bachelor's degree. *You should be aware that the minimum educational requirement to become a Registered Architect in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is a Bachelor of Architecture degree.If you are wanting to pursue this licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, you must continue your education, beyond HACC's Architecture AAS program, and obtain a professional degree in Architecture from an accredited program to meet Pennsylvania's requirement. In addition to the educational requirement to become a Registered Architect, there is also an experience or internship requirement, which occurs primarily in an architectural office. Many architecture schools are now integrating internships into their curricula. HACC’s Architecture AAS program provides transfer students with the skills they need to qualify for internships in architectural firms

Graduates of our architecture programs have:

  • Successfully transferred to four-year schools in architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, facilities management, and technical leadership programs
  • Secured positions as a CAD/BIM operator - preparing construction documents for a wide variety of building types
  • Found employment in architecture, design-build, construction and interior design firms as drafters, modelers, code researchers, detailers, construction supervisors, facility planners, and interior designers

Our associate degree is designed to prepare you for employment or to transfer to a four-year institution. This program introduces you to:

  • the art and science of architecture
  • explores aesthetics
  • architectural design
  • creation of presentation drawings
  • development of architectural working drawings using CAD/BIM software

In addition to the education requirement to become a Registered Architect in Pennsylvania, you will also be required to complete an experience or internship, which is normally done in an architectural firm. HACC's architecture program provides those who wish to transfer with the skills needed to qualify for internships in architectural firms.

Upon graduation, you will have been able to:

  • Interpret the various contract documents and governing regulations used in construction projects
  • Utilize various software programs toprepare presentation and preliminary construction drawings
  • Recognize construction methods, materials and systems used in residential and commercial construction
  • Design and present solutions to architectural design problems

Yes, your credits can transfer to a four-year college or university. In fact, graduates have successfully transferred to four-year schools in architecture, landscape architecture, interior design, facilities management and/or technical leadership programs. Since the requirements of senior institutions vary widely, it is essential that students choose their intended transfer institution as soon as possible and carefully follow the program requirements outlined in that institutions' catalog.
