With an Associate in Applied Science degree, you will have the skills and knowledge that translates into the following positions. It also can help lead you to a supervisory position.

  • Equipment salesperson
  • Installation leader
  • Service technician
  • Supply or distributor counter/parts manager

We are excited to help you learn the theory and hands-on skills to install, design, maintain and troubleshoot basic HVAC systems for residential and commercial buildings. To round out your education, you also will take general education courses in communications, science and mathematics and receive the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and R410A (type of equipment) certifications. These certifications allow you to handle Freon.

When you graduate from our program, you will be able to: 

  • Install, maintain and troubleshoot HVAC and refrigeration systems
  • Communicate effectively with customer service issues
  • Outline federal laws and obtain Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and R-410A refrigerant certification
  • Conduct and analyze readings on air properties, air flow and HVAC design for commercial dwellings
  • Install and service air flow systems and HVAC systems for residential dwellings
  • Calculate and design HVAC system size and system air flow devices
  • View summaries of every course at HACC by browsing our class schedules database.

Yes! While this program is designed to lead directly to employment, you have the opportunity to transfer your credits and continue your education. Our associate degree programs are designed to be flexible enough to transfer to a wide variety of four-year colleges and universities with no loss of credit. However, each individual college has its own unique program. We encourage you to select a four-year school as soon as possible. This will allow you to learn the transfer college’s program requirements so you can take the proper classes at HACC.

We only offer this program at our Harrisburg Campus through on-campus/in-person instruction. Students can attend full-time during the day or part-time during the evening.
