While some people spend their summer evenings by the pool, many others use their free time to sharpen a skill or learn a new hobby. HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, is offering a variety of noncredit courses for anyone looking for know-how in a number of key topics. From debt-free living to basic botany, all of the courses will be held at the college's York Center, located at 2010 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Calling all skeptics! Learn how to pay off all of your debt, including mortgage, in seven to nine years on your present income in HACC's "Debt-Free Living." Bring a calculator and a list of your debts to this one-session class. You will learn simple math that works every time. No financial planning, insurance, or investment programs will be offered or sold. The class is scheduled for Monday, June 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. The cost is $46.

"Basic Botany" provides in-depth coverage of angiosperm plant anatomy (leaf, stem and root), growth, flowers, fruit and seeds. The course will be offered on Thursdays, June 7-28, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $100.

Local attorney Kurt Blake, of Blake and Gross, will lead the Landlord/Tenant Law course for HACC. Scheduled for Wednesday, June 13 from 6 to 9 p.m., the one-session course costs $35 and would benefit anyone who collects or pays rent. Topics to be covered include Creation of Landlord/Tenant relationship, including Fair Housing laws, capacity to contract, form leases and statute of frauds; lease terms, security deposits, utilities, rules and regulations; Rights and Duties-payment of rent, tenant disputes, implied warranties; termination of relationship and more.

A nuts-and-bolts primer on the issues that impact a family law case with be the subject of "Family Law Primer." Offered on Wednesday, June 27 from 6 to 9 p.m., the course will include discussion and evaluation of divorce process and procedure, protection from abuse, custody, support, alimony and equitable distribution. The cost is $35.
