Harrisburg Campus of HACC noncredit courses enrich personal and professional life

Enrolling in one of the varied noncredit courses offered through HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, is a perfect way to ease winter doldrums and enrich your personal or professional life. The courses, which cover topics such as languages, photography, sports and fitness, home and garden, arts, crafts and music, and money matters, will be held at the college's Harrisburg Campus, located at One HACC Drive, adjacent to the Farm Show Complex.

Languages

Learn basic language skills during "Conversational Russian I" or advance existing skills in "Conversational Chinese II," which will be offered beginning in March. The Russian course is scheduled for Thursdays, March 1 through April 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. The Chinese course runs March 29 through May 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost for each course is $125.

Arts/Crafts/Music

"Calligraphy" is an introduction to the art of beautiful writing with thorough instruction in the use of the broad edged pen learning the Italic letters. The course is offered on Thursdays, March 1 through April 5, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. the cost is $72.

Explore intermediate and advanced Precious Metal Clay projects during "PMC Beyond the Basics." Learn to paint organic shapes, make hollow forms and set precious stones. The course is scheduled for Saturdays, March 10-31, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $98.

"Crochet Basics" will teach you to start a chain, single crochet stitch, double crochet stitch and to read a pattern and make a granny square. Scheduled for Thursdays, March 15 through April 26, the course runs from 6 to 8 p.m. and costs $95.

Learn to create beautiful art glass jewelry by cutting specialty fusing and dichroic glass pieces which are fired in a kiln during "Fused Art Glass Jewelry." The class is scheduled for Thursdays, March 22 through April 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $50.

HACC will host three art lectures beginning in March. "Eugene Delacroix" will be the focus of the March 11 lecture at Over The Teacup in Camp Hill. The class, which will be offered at either 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. or 4 to 6 p.m., will cost $25. "Giants of the Renaissance" is the topic of the March 22 lecture planned from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Cornerstone Coffeehouse in Camp Hill. The cost of this class is $20.

"Romanticism in France and Spain" is a multi-session lecture planned for March 12 through May 7 in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center. Scheduled on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the course costs $150.

The total beginner will quickly learn all the basic reading skills needed for playing and reading music for any instrument during "Music Reading: Total Beginners." Offered on Thursday, March 15 from 2 to 4 p.m., the cost for the course is $35.

"Instant Piano for Busy People" is a beginning class in chord piano techniques. Students will learn secrets of the trade to make piano playing a part of life, learning chords, not notes. The course is scheduled for Thursday, March 15 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. and costs $49.

Money Matters

The Cornerstone Coffeehouse is the site for "Face It-Your Financial Future." Learn how to reduce credit card debt and get started on a firm financial path. The class will be held on Sunday, March 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. for participants ages 35 to 45. Sunday, March 11, the class will repeat at the same time for participants ages 45 to 55.

Today's woman must reevaluate her financial position and plan intelligently for the future. "Investing from a Woman's Point of View" will provide the opportunity to look into the pros and cons of investments. The course, which costs $40, will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Mondays, March 5-19.

Learn how to get completely out of debt, including your mortgage, in as little as three to seven years in "Invest in Your Debt." The course, which is scheduled for Thursday, March 29, from 6 to 9 p.m., costs $46.

Home and Garden

"Gardening Solutions" holds the answers to overcoming a multitude of problems, such as too much sun, shade, water or clay. The course is scheduled for Monday, March 5 from 8 a.m. to noon. The cost is $40.

Learn about furniture, placement, color, floor coverings, fabrics, wall coverings, lighting and more in "Interior Decorating." This course, which is held Wednesdays, March 21 through May 9 from 7 to 9 p.m., costs $175.

Sports/Fitness/Recreation

"America's Boating Course II" will cover information essential to the safe operation of all recreational boats, but will focus on the operation of power and sail boats typically used on rivers, lakes and bays. The course is scheduled on Tuesdays, April 10 through May 1, from 7 to 9 p.m. The cost is $75.

Youth ages 13-18 can learn the key factors that place athletes at high risk for ACL injuries by using sports specific resistance training to address correct muscle balance and overall knee join strength. "ACL Injury Prevention" is scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays, March 12 through April 18, from 8 to 9 p.m. The cost is $240.

Photography

"Photography Basics (Film or Digital)" begins with the basics: camera handling and exposure, principles of composition, lighting and use of basic filters. The course is held Thursdays, March 22 through April 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. The cost is $115.

General Interest

Discuss two classic examples of biblical mysteries-"Mary Magdalene and the Shroud of Turin" during a class at the Cornerstone Coffeehouse, Camp Hill. Offered on Thursday, March 8 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, the cost is $20.

Learn to play the American version of "Majhong." The course runs on Mondays, March 12-26, from 6 to 9 p.m. The cost is $72.

Gain insight into why you react so strongly to difficult people in your life during "Buttons and Triggers." Learn how to be happier and in control and change self-defeating behaviors. This course is scheduled for Thursday, March 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $20.

An eBay member since 1991, the instructor of "eBay Savvy" covers topics such as registration, scams, bidding, photo options, fees, sniping, shipping, selling, buying, protecting your good name and more. The course is offered at two different times: Saturdays, March 17-24, 9 to 11 a.m. or Mondays, March 26 through April 2, 6 to 8 p.m. Both course options will be offered at Cornerstone Coffeehouse, Camp Hill and cost $40.

Gain knowledge of yourself and empower your life in "Mind Over Matter." Through various exercises, you will learn skills to identify, address, and manage your individual concerns. The course is scheduled for Thursday, March 22, 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $20.

In "Metaphysics 101" students will examine the attributes of individuality, their personalities, and their individual gifts. Create a mission statement for work and for life on Thursday, March 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $20.
