Harrisburg Campus of HACC offers community education classes

July 2, 2007
Non-credit community education classes offered by the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, are just the ticket for personal growth, finding new hobbies, getting fit, making new friends and finding interesting activities for the kids this summer.

"Film Making Academy," 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday, July 16-19, will teach the basics of screenwriting, story-boarding, acting, directing, production design and film editing techniques. Cost is $195. Registration is limited to 15 students, age 13 or older.

Participants will create a story idea, write the script, shoot the movie; then edit footage and burn to a DVD. They are encouraged to bring a digital video camera along with accessories (a Hi-8 VHS or camera also can be used). A visit to a local video production studio is included.

"eBay Savvy," Cornerstone Coffeehouse, Camp Hill, 9a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturdays, August 11 and 18, will be taught by an experienced eBay member and will include eBay registration, scams, bidding, photo options, fees, sniping, shipping, selling, buying, protecting your good name and more. Cost is $40.

"Interior Trends 2007-2008," Gehman & Company, Mechanicsburg, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays, July 12 to August 2, will cover color combinations, styles and accessories to freshen any interior. Cost is $88.

"Perennials," 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, August 15 to Sept. 12, will cover the identification and use of perennials, including site selection, preparation, planting techniques and maintenance. Cost is $125. Text information will be provided when registering.

A number of "swimming for fitness" classes will be offered on the HACC Campus starting late August, including Liquid Dynamics, Deep Water Power Workout, Deep Hydropower, Cardio Core Training, Aquasize and more. Early registration is recommended, as classes fill quickly. Some require comfort in deep water.

"A Beginners Guide to Wine" and other classes in food and spirits, money management, photography, home and garden, history and more will be offered in late summer/early fall.
