Manufacturers who want to keep a competitive edge can find help at HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, by taking advantage of a $2 million grant aimed at upgrading the skilled workforce.

Find out how to qualify for training funds through HACC at an information workshop in cooperation with the South Central Manufacturer's Association (MASCPA) from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, June 7, at the HACC-York Center, 2010 Pennsylvania Ave in York.

Not only will the workshop explain the numerous opportunities available for training in such areas as HVAC, welding, PLC and industrial electrical, it will emphasize the importance of supporting the region's manufacturing workforce. The U.S. Department of Labor granted HACC a $2 million job training grant to aid the region in labor force development.

"Nearly half of the region's manufacturing workers are over 45 and nearly 20 percent are within 10 years of retirement," said Dr. Edna Baehre, president of HACC, adding, "That creates a real challenge for our region. Many of these workers are highly skilled, but need to learn new advanced technology," she said. "What's more, we need to be training younger workers to take their place as these baby boomers retire."

To be a part of improving the regional industry's competitive edge, reserve a spot for this free event. Seating is limited. Call (717) 221-1327 or email: apparker@hacc.edu to register.
