Lebanon Campus of HACC offers Community Education courses

Interested in learning something new? Perhaps you would simply like to practice a favorite hobby. If so, the Lebanon Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, has a course designed for you. With subjects ranging from sewing to genealogy, there is sure to be a class to pique your interest.

Bobbin Lace is designed to teach the basics of this genre of needlework. Find out how to easily construct seemingly intricate patterns that will impress all your friends. At the course's end, each student will walk away with original works that are sure to become treasured items. The class will be offered on either Saturdays at 9am-4pm or Sundays at 1-5pm from March 31 to April 1. Cost is $60. An additional materials fee will be collected at the first class.

Rug Braiding will be offered on either Saturdays at 9am-4pm or Sundays at 1-5pm from March 31 to April 1. Cost is $100 with an additional materials fee taken at the first class. Covered topics include the basics of constructing a braided rug and learning the different shapes of rugs. Gain the satisfaction of furnishing your home with your own hand-made creations by taking this course!

Needle Tatting is an additional way used to construct lace. Imagine the accomplishment you will feel from creating a masterful design by just manipulating a needle and thread! This course will be held on either Saturdays at 9am-4pm or Sundays at 1-5pm from March 31 to April 1. Cost is $60 with an additional materials fee taken at the first class.

Genealogy in New Millennium is a look at what's ahead in genealogical technology. The course emphasizes the importance of humanizing our ancestors and not allowing our new tools to dictate our directions. The class will be offered on Sunday, March 18 at 1:30-2:30pm for $25.

Genealogy: Tracing the Origins of 18th Century Emigrants is a lively discussion emphasizing the how-to's of pinpointing and then fully tracing the European roots of our ancestors. The book, "They Came Together, They Stayed Together!" will also be discussed. The class will be offered on Sunday, March 18 at 1:30-2:30pm for $25.

Genealogy: When the Sources are Wrong is a study of primary and secondary sources often found to be in error, how to spot them, and then overcome those troublesome obstacles as the class climbs the family tree. The course will be offered on Sunday, March 18 at 3-4pm for $25.

Photography Youth Sports Workshop is a "How To" session created specifically for "Sports Moms" and others who want to improve the quality of their sports action photographs. The workshop will cover equipment selection, exposure control, location techniques, and "Photo-etiquette." The seminar will be held on Saturday, March 24 at 1-6pm for $75.

Practical Fencing will be offered on Thursdays at 8:16-10pm from March 29 to May 10. Cost is $50. Come join the HACC Fencing Club, an energetic and friendly group of fencers, as you further refine your fencings skills.

These courses are only a fraction of the several options available at the Lebanon Campus of HACC, located at 735 Cumberland Street, Lebanon.
