The afternoon will feature four amazing musical performances: No Speed Limit lights up the stage with brilliant young bluegrass; Wayne Henderson amazes audiences with his stunning picking and guitar solos; Anderson & Stickland pair up for dazzling mandolin melodies; and Martha Spencer displays flat-foot/clogging and multiple instrument talent.
"The Crooked Road" is Virginia's Heritage Music Trail, a driving route through the Appalachian Mountains from the western slopes of the Blue Ridge to the Coalfields region of the state. The traditional gospel, bluegrass, and mountain music heard there today was passed down from generation to generation and lives on through a wealth of musicians and instrument makers along the trail. The artists teaming up for our Live From The Crooked Road concert all hail from this famously musical "crooked road."
Wayne Henderson is an accomplished and recognized guitar artisan, making custom guitars for many famous musicians, including Eric Clapton. His talents don't stop at guitar crafting; he is also an accomplished guitar picker who uses a distinctive three-finger style - utilizing picks on his thumb, index and middle fingers which has led to top honors and a performance at Carnegie Hall.
Also appearing with Live From The Crooked Road will be the No Speed Limit band with their amazingly talented 16 year old lead singer Amber Collins and talented band mates. Anderson & Stickland are well known players and crafters who enchant their audiences playing their own handmade instruments. And wrapping up the tour is Martha Spencer, a remarkable talent as a flat-foot/clogger who plays the fiddle, guitar, bass and clawhammer banjo.
This event offers both pre-show and post-show events to add to the audience's experience. A 2pm artist chat will give them an opportunity to ask the artists questions and see the talents of these musical crafters. Following the performance will be a free meet-the-artist Bluegrass Pickin' featuring Classic Cuisine Catering Service (Hershey, PA), Prudhommes Cajun Kitchen (Columbia, PA) and Memphis Blues Bar-B-Q (Mechanicsburg, PA). These local restaurants will offer their country fare while the artists mingle with the crowd.
Tickets for the performance are $25 adult, $20 senior citizen/student, $12 children ages 7-12. RLAC Box Office phone is 717-231-ROSE (7673). TIX sales online www.hacc.edu/rose.
