The show will feature Gerard Alessandrini's ever-fresh parody of Broadway that has had audiences doubled-over with laughter. Forbidden Broadway: Special Victims Unit pokes fun at classical Broadway shows and stars, as well as current popular shows running today. Forbidden Broadway was first seen 24 years ago at Palsson's Supper Club on New York's Upper West Side in January 1982. An unemployed actor with a dream, a couple of bucks, and a wit that could cut glass, Alessandrini, wanted a showcase for his talents. He decided to assemble some of the musical parodies of Broadway shows he had written since childhood into a nightclub act. Critics and audiences were wowed and it has since become New York's longest running musical comedy revue. Most of its victims (stars and casts) make a point of stopping by to see what Alessandrini has done to them.
Alessandrini and Forbidden Broadway recently won the 2006 Tony Award Honoring Excellence in Theatre. He has also won a 2005 Drama Desk Award for Best Musical Revue, Obie and Outer Critics Circle Awards, four other Drama Desk Awards, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Drama League.
