Spring is a traditional time of renewal and a great time to enroll in one of the varied noncredit courses offered through HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College. The courses, which cover everything from debt free living to self defense for women, will be held at the college's Lancaster Campus, located at 1641 Old Philadelphia Pike.

Learn how to pay off all of your debt, including mortgage, in seven to nine years on your present income in "Debt-Free Living." Bring a calculator and a list of your debts to class. You will learn simple math that works every time. The class will be offered on Wednesday, April 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. The cost is $49.

Learn a new language during "Conversational French I." Offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 3-26, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the cost is $125.

"Garden Design Through Nature" is not your ordinary landscape design class. Students will develop a respect for the way nature intended landscape to be. They will learn plant placement, selection, care and maintenance. Commonly used trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants, plant structure and anatomy will also be discussed. The course, which costs $96, is scheduled for Tuesdays, April 3-24, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Discover how to inflict pain and gain control over an attacker in "Self Defense for Women." The techniques are easy to learn and do not require strength or agility. Participants also will learn the proper methods for using pepper spray and ways to avoid becoming a victim. The course is scheduled for Wednesdays, April 4-25, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $65.

"Wire Work" is a class about learning techniques and using your own creativity to design jewelry. Students will learn about the properties of wire, the tools and the techniques to shape it into loops, clasps, spirals and wrapped loops, as well as add beads and finish jewelry. This one session class will be offered on Tuesday, April 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $25.

Learn how to use fresh ingredients to make savory stocks, homemade salad dressings, crisp salads, and vegetarian entrees during "Vegetarian Soups and Salads." The class, which will be offered on Wednesday, April 11, from 6 to 9 p.m., costs $50.

If you enjoy cooking and would like to have an opportunity to learn from some of Lancaster County's most fabulous chefs, you don't want to miss "Cooking with the Chef." Rob and Rose Bilas will lead the class on Sunday, April 29, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The cost is $50.

Recommended for couples, "Dancing the Night Away" will have you learning fast and slow dances for weddings, cruises and nights on the town. The course will be held at Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Lancaster on Tuesdays, April 17-24, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The cost is $39.
