Pennsylvania's rich heritage of quilting has inspired today's artisans. Their work stands on its own as unique and contemporary. The showcase mixes beautifully designed and crafted work that varies from traditional techniques to very abstract patterns. Pieces may be quilted coverlets, wall hangings, table runners or clothing created by craftsmen who have experimented with quilting techniques.
Radius, a part of Central Pennsylvania's Community College will kick-off the showcase with an open house from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 6. All items on display will be available for sale.
Patricia Harants, nationally known quilt artist and author, will be on hand for a lecture and book signing from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 10. Her latest book, "Patricia E. Harants Lifestyle Collection: The Wickersham Signature Quilt," includes the Wickersham pattern. Harants has replicated several historical quilts for the State Museum of Pennsylvania.
Advance registration is required for the Feb. 10 event and can be completed by contacting HACC's noncredit office at 780-2414 or by visiting www.hacc.edu and using HACC's Noncredit Shopping Cart.
In recognition of Radius' third anniversary, the HACC gallery and museum shop will hold a storewide sale from Feb. 10-17. Everything in the store will be from 10-50 percent off, including items featured in the Showcase Series.
Highlighting the sale will be an anniversary open house from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 16. All are welcome to the open house with live music, artist demonstrations and a book signing.
The Radius Showcase Series will continue throughout the coming year, featuring topics such as glass blowing, furniture design and jewelry brooches. HACC's Gallery and Museum shop is open 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 4:30 p.m. Sundays. For more information, call 717-787-5590.
The Radius Showcase Series - Contemporary Quilts and Quilting runs from January 2 - February 29 at Radius, HACC Gallery and Museum Shop on the ground floor of The State Museum, 300 North St. Radius is a partnership of HACC and the State of Pennsylvania/Pennsylvania Historical Museum Commission.
