York Center of HACC offers variety of noncredit courses

Coming up this spring is a diverse selection of courses that are sure to appeal. Whether your interests include gardening, sewing, or lawmaking, you will find a class that suits at the York Center of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College.

Garden

"The Joys of Hand Pruning" will teach the how's, when's, and why's of hand pruning on everything from woody ornamentals, evergreen shrubs, ornamental shade trees, to conifers. Learn what tools are best for each job, and discover the satisfaction of properly caring for your plants. The course will be offered at the Shiloh Nurseries in Emigsville at 9am-12pm on Saturday, March 3. Cost is $35.

"Creating a Shade Garden" will be offered Monday, March 5 and Wednesday, March 7 at 7-8:30pm at the Shiloh Nurseries in Emigsville. Cost is $35. This innovative course will show you how to design and maintain a garden in those pesky shaded areas of your yard. Have a gorgeous garden throughout your property with the techniques learned in this class.

"Got the Blues?" If not, find out how to obtain those beautiful blue hydrangeas that everyone else has. Not only will you be introduced to many new varieties of hydrangeas, you will also learn how to prune and where to plant these gorgeous bushes. The class will be offered at the Shiloh Nurseries in Emigsville on either Thursday, March 15 at 6-8pm or Saturday, March 17 at 10am-12pm. Cost is $25.

Imported and domestic wines

"A Beginner's Guide to Wine" explains the history of imported and domestic wines, the winemaking process, and the primary grape varieties. Discover the art of wine tasting, become familiar with tools of the trade, and gain an understanding of the basic guidelines for selecting the appropriate wine with food. Wine from local wineries will be sampled in every class. Enrollment is limited and students must be 21 years of older to enroll. The course will be held on Thursdays from March 8-29 at 6:15-9:15pm. Cost is $129.

Law

"District Justice System" is an introduction to the issues before a district justice and the district justice's role in the legal system. The class session is presented in a question-and-answer format designed to encourage class participation and answer your questions. The course will be offered on Wednesday, March 14 at 6-9pm. Cost is $35.

"Family Law" is a class covering adoption, divorce, custody, prenuptial agreements and more. The class session is presented in a question-and-answer format designed to encourage class participation and answer your questions. The course will be held on Wednesday, March 28 from 6-9pm. Cost is $35.

Needlework

"Stitching Time: Cross Stitch" will be held on Saturdays at 9-11am from March 17-24. Cost is $39. Designed for beginners, this course will cover the basics of the craft while you cross stitch a small potpourri sachet. A materials fee for the complete kit will be collected at the first class.

These are only a fraction of the many community education classes available through the York Campus of HACC, located at 2010 Pennsylvania Avenue, York.
