Discover secrets to good recordkeeping at HACC' event Nov. 21

Enola entrepreneur says accurate documenting good for every business
Oct. 31, 2008
Harrisburg, PA—Many small business owners blame their poor recordkeeping on lack of time. But, it is that poor recordkeeping that takes up all their time, says Kathleen Swailes, CPA.
Swailes, the owner of Commonwealth Accounting Solutions, Enola, will share simple tips on how women entrepreneurs can improve their recordkeeping during the next session of Women’s Talkabouts, a series of free informal networking events offered by HACC’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies.
“Does Chaos Describe Your Recordkeeping?” will be the topic of the session noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, in Suite 231, Three Penn Center, 349 Wiconisco St. Participants are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch. HACC will provide a dessert and beverage.
The topic is a popular one among small business owners, says Dorothy Minnick, business counselor. “In this economic environment, it is something that is especially important,” she says, adding that she expects a big turnout.
“Because Kate is a small business owner herself, she will do a good job relating to the audience and getting the basics down,” says Minnick.
Swailes, a certified public accountant, has operated her business for two years. Previously she was employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, where she gained experience in accounting and auditing. In addition, she is a QuickBooks Pro Advisor.
“(Accurate recordkeeping) is good for every business,” says Swailes. “If (business owners) don’t have their things in order and track their spending, then they won’t see the true picture of whether or not their business is profitable.”
The sponsor for this session is Judy Forshee, an independent consultant for Healthy Horizons with Nikken. For more information, go to www.nikken.com or call Forshee at 717-233-1052.
Women business owners interested in attending the Nov. 21 session should call 1-800-ABC-HACC (800-222-4222), ext. 1311 to reserve a seat.
The Women’s Talkabouts will return to HACC Harrisburg in January with an open forum moderated by Barbara Schreiber, chief idea officer for The Idea Zoo, York.
