HACC expands Women's Talkabouts to York Campus

May 29 session highlights power of focus
May 13, 2008
YORK - Often times, women entrepreneurs find themselves stretched in multiple directions - taking on more and more as they build their businesses. But the key to success is the ability to focus, says Julie Lichty.

The York-based business and career coach will share her insight during the first Women’s Talkabouts at the York Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College. “Less is More: The Power of Focus” will be the topic of the free, informal networking session noon-1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 29, in Room 106 on the campus at 2010 Pennsylvania Ave. Participants are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch. HACC will provide a dessert and beverage.

The Women’s Talkabouts program is an informal networking series offered by HACC's Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies, as an extension of the college’s annual Women on the Move conference. It began in 2007 and was held at HACC’s Penn Center in Harrisburg. Because of the popularity of the program and requests from central Pennsylvania businesswomen it has expanded to the York, Lancaster and Lebanon campuses.

Every session of Women’s Talkabouts is led by a local woman entrepreneur, such as York-based business owner Lichty.

“Many women entrepreneurs are trying to be everything to everybody,” Lichty said. “It is important to have focused goals, know who your clients are, and be clear about the services you offer and your approach to marketing.” Lichty has been in business for seven years and has clients throughout the United States and Canada. She gained experience in the corporate world in the areas of human resources, employee development, and new business planning and implementation prior to venturing out on her own.

“Julie is a very practical thinker who can look at all the different pieces and narrow it down into a concise idea,” said Lisa Steffen, business counselor. “She can pull out all the dirt and get right to the core of the issue.”

The sponsor for this session is Barbara J. Schreiber, chief idea officer for The Idea Zoo, based in York. Schreiber offers simple business solutions for individuals, teams or groups. Schreiber also will present, “The Healthiest Thing You Can Do for Yourself and Your Business” at next month’s session from noon-1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 19. For more information about Schreiber and The Idea Zoo, go to www.theideazoo.com or call 888-751-2885.

Women business owners interested in attending either the May 29 or June 19 session - or both -- should call 221-1311 to reserve a seat.
