Welsh village in Delta used to be center of world's best slate

Gettysburg, PA – Discover Peach Bottom slate in the York County village of Delta, once the center of the best slate in the world, on a day-long bus trip on Saturday, June 27. 
Delta has preserved its slate-quarrying heritage when Welsh settlers quarried Peach Bottom slate in the 18th and 19th centuries. The tour will take participants to visit the Rehobath Welsh Church, Old Line Museum, Jones Quarry, Slate Ridge Presbyterian Church and cemetery, and a Welsh village known as Coulsontown.
          
Along the way, you’ll get a chance to split slate.
Jeri L. Jones of the York County Department of Parks and Recreation will lead the tour. Cameras are welcome and everyone will receive a tour booklet.
The bus leaves promptly at 9 a.m. from HACC’s York Campus, 2010 Pennsylvania Ave., and will return at 4 p.m.
The cost is $65 per person, with registration deadline June 11. No refunds will be issued after the registration deadline.
