Harrisburg, PA – Three new courses offered this month at HACC’s Midtown site focus on green technology, with a 20-hour course for the professional and two one-session courses for homeowners.

Photovoltaic Systems, a basic introduction to solar energy, is a 20-hour course that will run from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 11-Sept. 10. This course is for the professional contractor who has some mechanical and electrical knowledge. Topics will include site surveys, system components and configurations, methodologies and calculations. The cost of $441 includes the textbook. Mike Barnes, an adjunct professor at Midtown, is the instructor.

Elec-tricked: Watt Can I Do? Evaluate your home through the eyes of an energy pro during this two-hour course. Date for the course to be determined. Students will learn how to make small changes for big energy savings. Students should bring their electric bills to evaluate usage. The cost is $54. Gary Schubert is the instructor.

Home Energy Smart: Where Do I Start? Residential homeowners who are considering an energy efficiency make over will benefit from this course. Date for the course to be determined. Instructors are Bonnie McCann and Jennifer Briggs from Waste Not Energy Advisors. Topics include what is meant by the terms “whole house/building concept” and “energy star designation” and the costs and benefits of an energy audit. The cost is $67 per person.
All three courses will be held at HACC’s Midtown site, Third and Reily streets, Harrisburg.
