HACC's fall bus trips offer fun, views, education

See the Yankees play, visit covered bridges or discover terra cotta army
Aug. 3, 2009
HACC-sponsored bus trips this fall offer three opportunities for participants to expand their horizons.
The public is invited to take advantage of one or all of the following trips to see the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles square off at the new Yankee Stadium, spend a day in exploring Pennsylvania’s covered bridges and enjoy fall foliage or travel to Washington, D.C., to view China antiquities at the National Geographic Museum.
  • Yankees vs. Orioles on Sunday, Sept. 13
Don’t miss this opportunity to see the Yankees meet the Orioles in section 434A of the new Yankee Stadium. The $125 cost includes a ticket to the 1:05 p.m. game, round trip bus fare and a HACC guide. Food purchases are the responsibility of the participants. The bus will leave the Harrisburg Campus at 7 a.m., leave the Lancaster Campus at 8 a.m. and make a brief breakfast stop on the way to New York. The bus will return at approximately 9 p.m. to the Harrisburg Campus and 10 p.m. to the Lancaster Campus. The deadline to register is Aug. 14. No refunds will be issued after the registration deadline.
  •  Fall Foliage and Covered Bridges, Oct. 10
Pennsylvania’s covered bridges, favorite subjects for photographers and historians, are the focus of this bus trip. A local guide will board the bus and spend several hours traveling from bridge to bridge. Then the group will drive to Knoebels Grove Park for the annual craft show. Participants will be able to also enjoy the autumn leaves along the way. Buses will leave at 6 a.m. from the front parking lot of the Gettysburg Campus and at 7 a.m. from Lot W9 at the Harrisburg Campus. Travelers will leave Knoebels Grove Park at 6 p.m. for the return trip home. The $65 cost includes the bus and guides. All meals are the responsibility of participants. The group will stop for breakfast and dinner, but participants should bring a brown-bag lunch. The deadline to register is Sept. 11. No refunds will be issued after the registration deadline.
  • Terra Cotta Warriors, Nov. 21
In 1974, workers were digging a well outside the city of Xi’an in China when they struck a life-size clay soldier poised for battle. After considerable digging and excavation, thousands of soldiers were discovered – all with different faces. It seems that Qin Shi Huang Di, the First Emperor of Qin, decided to have his army duplicated in terra cotta so they could protect him in the next world. This bus trip takes participants to the National Geographic Museum in Washington, D.C., to see many of these famous soldiers and other Chinese antiquities. There will be plenty of free time to explore other parts of the city. The $79 cost includes the guide, bus and museum admission ticket. Meals are the responsibility of participants. The bus leaves from the Lancaster Campus at 6:15 a.m., the Harrisburg Campus at 7:15 a.m. and the Gettysburg Campus at 8:15 a.m. The registration deadline is Oct. 19. No refunds will be issued after the registration deadline.
