Theatre For Young People: "Treasure Island"
April 7, 2009
Harrisburg — HACC’s Theatre for Young People (TYP) will bring adventure and famous characters to the stage with an adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island.”
A public performance will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25, in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center theatre on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
TYP’s production of “Treasure Island” is an exciting theatrical adaptation by Aurand Harris. Along with young Jim Hawkins, the audience sails aboard the HMS “Hispanola” for a daring adventure on Treasure Island. In a conflict between good and evil, Jim courageously faces danger, learns that evil can masquerade as “good,” and matures from a boy into manhood. All of Stevenson’s famous characters are aboard -- the good doctor and the Squire, the sinister Blind Pew, the marooned Ben Gunn, the infamous Long John Silver, and a colorful crew of buccaneers. Arrrrrggghh, Matey!
Directed by Brenda C. Eppley, HACC Professor of Theatre, TYP’s presentation provides an authentic depiction from the book. Costume design is by Paul Foltz, adjunct theatre instructor. Lighting design is by Lori Friedlander, theatre technical director. The elaborate set design/construction is by David J. Olmsted, scenic designer/production manager. Sound design is by Tamara Stevens. Property design is by Terri Hoffman. The stage manager for the production is HACC theatre student, Sydney Daviston-Atkins, and assistant stage manager is Crystal Brockman.
The “Treasure Island” cast is comprised of HACC students featuring (in alphabetical order) Josh Arnold, Jeff Aument, Gabriel Bellotti, Alex Cassel, DeAndra Chatman, Mark Deiter, Sean Hackman, Billy Koontz, Bill McCarthy, Sander Merrill, Sara Mullen, Mihir Patel and Jeremy Patterson.
