HACC's Women on the Move conference heads to Lancaster

Oct. 8, 2009
LANCASTER – Learn the ropes of selling, building capability and confidence along with connecting in valuable networking opportunities at the sixth annual Women on the Move conference, “Confident, Capable, Connected!”, in the East Building at the Lancaster Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
Lancaster-area entrepreneurs will share their success stories at the full-day learning and networking event held 7:45 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at the campus, 1641 Old Philadelphia Pike. It is presented by HACC’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies and women entrepreneurs from across the region are invited.
Since 2004, Women on the Move has traveled to HACC’s campuses in Gettysburg, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Lebanon and York, delivering useful resources and tangible advice for female entrepreneurs.
“Each year it involves different communities, and this year we’re excited to be bringing it to Lancaster,” said Fran Verotsky, executive director of HACC’s Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies. “Focusing on one location brings a sense of community and allows us to get assistance from that community and get the very best speakers.”
The morning keynote speaker is Laura Schanz, of Laura Schanz and Associates in Lancaster, a consulting firm providing assessment, strategic planning, organizational development and more services for businesses.
Schanz’s presentation “Selling From The Inside Out” will offer values-driven, solutions-based sales training that helps to build relationships and stay a step ahead of the competition and achieve better sales performance.
Luncheon speaker Dr. Lucia Murphy of Lancaster, also known as “Doctor Murph,” will focus on “Leading in Lean Times.” Well-known for her wit and enthusiasm, she is the author of “LeaderSpeak: 7 Conversations that Create Sustainable Success.”
Other presenters at this year’s Women on the Move include:
  • Carol Deckert, a netweaving/networking coach for RUN (Referrals Unlimited Network) in Lancaster. Deckert uses “netweaving” as a “spin on the traditional networking process” outside the traditional “What can you do for me?” and transforms the approach to “What can I do for you?”
  • Heather Leed of Peapod Photography in Ephrata
  • David Nickeloff of the Lancaster County Economic Development Company
Breakout session topics cover planning and marketing basics for starting a business, successful marketing in a tough economy, Web site basics, introduction to social media marketing and financing your own business. All presented by Lancaster area entrepreneurs and agency representatives.
IES works with many businesses and organizations to make events like Women on the Move possible.
