Adams commissioner named distinguished HACC alumna

GETTYSBURG – Adams County Commissioner Lisa Moreno-Woodward was one of six alumni welcomed into the HACC Alumni Association’s Circle of Distinction during a celebration dinner recently at the HACC-Harrisburg Campus.
“Our 2010 Distinguished Alumni, through their commitment and hard work, embody the HACC spirit and serve as an inspiration to other alumni and all students,” said Linda Cobb, president of the HACC Alumni Association. “Their success is measured by the impact they have made -- and continue to make -- in our community and in their personal lives.”
Moreno-Woodward is only the third woman to be elected as a commissioner in Adams County. While working in Pennsylvania real estate, she also served in various Adams County government offices for 13 years and began studying at HACC for an associate degree in paralegal studies.
“I don’t think I would be where I am today if I had not come to HACC,” Moreno-Woodward said. “It was an affordable opportunity, and I could work full time at the courthouse during the day and take classes in the evening. After I got my degree, the commissioners appointed me as deputy chief clerk.”
In 2007, Moreno-Woodward was appointed to fill a vacancy on the three-seat board of commissioners, and then was elected to the position. The commissioners’ primary duty is to create and manage the annual county budget. Their administrative responsibilities include registration and elections, assessment of persons and property, human services, veterans’ affairs, appointment of county personnel, and oversight of the Adams County prison, 911 services, and Green Acres-Adams County Nursing & Rehab Center.
As a commissioner, Moreno-Woodward serves on the boards of directors of the Adams County Cooperative Extension, Adams County Transit Authority, and Adams County Economic Development, as well as the Local Emergency Planning Commission and Green Acres Auxiliary. She also sits on the Pennsylvania Counties Risk Pool insurance board.
Moreno-Woodward has remained engaged with HACC. She was named co-chair of the HACC Gettysburg Campus 20th Anniversary Committee and she has been working with an alumni leadership group charged with establishing the HACC Alumni Association’s first chapter at the Gettysburg Campus.
“I go to many different meetings but I always enjoy coming to meet with the people at HACC,” said Moreno-Woodward. “It’s an honor to continue to work with HACC, and I’m proud to be recognized with this beautiful Circle of Distinction award.”
HACC alumni who also received distinguished alumni awards were Bruce M. Deveney of Enola, Dr. James B. Nesbit of Camp Hill and Harrisburg residents Timothy P. Albert, Frederick A. Clark and Jonathon A. Hetrick.
