LANCASTER – Whether you like to cook, explore history, try your hand at artistic endeavors or a variety of other opportunities, the HACC-Lancaster Campus has something for everyone this summer.
The lineup includes:
“The First Battle of Bull Run,” offered from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at a cost of $16. On July 21, 1861, two untrained and inexperienced armies collided near Manassas, Va., bringing on the first major clash of the American Civil War. The battle that followed was chaotic, confused, and remarkably hard-fought. This study includes tactical observations and command errors.
“Comfort Foods for Fall,” offered 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at a cost of $59. This hands-on class will teach students how to prepare classic fall dishes from scratch. Join us to make bacon-wrapped chicken breasts, macaroni gratin with wild mushrooms, Tuscan bean soup, beef stew, Sunday gravy, and chicken and sausage jambalaya.
“Arabic I, Conversational,” offered 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Aug. 24-Oct. 12, at a cost of $125. Students can use this opportunity to learn basic skills to satisfy personal growth or enhance employment qualifications. The course is designed for students at least 16 years old. Textbook information, if required, will be listed in the confirmation letter, and should be available at the campus bookstore or online.
“Drawing Basics, Beginner,” offered 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 24-Sept. 21, at a cost of $149. Students will learn approaches to drawing, including contours, gestures, proportion study and shapes using a variety of tools. Landscapes, portrait, still life and abstract will be covered.
“Watercolor, Beginner,” offered from 6-9 p.m. Thursdays, Aug. 16-Oct. 14, at a cost of $179. Students will learn about materials and techniques while experimenting with a variety of approaches. Class includes demonstration and individual instruction. No drawing experience required. A supply list will be provided with the confirmation letter.
“Photography, Basic 35mm,” offered 6-8 p.m. Thursdays, Aug. 26-Sept. 16, at a cost of $79. Join this session to learn the basics of camera control, principles of exposure, and metering. While many aspects are similar between film and digital photography, this class is optimized for the medium of film and includes discussions on film speeds, types of emulsions, practical composition and techniques to improve your photography skills. Students should bring their cameras to each class.
