HARRISBURG – The HACC Theatre for Young People cast of “Charlotte’s Web” is adding a performance of the children’s classic to the events at the Family Favorites Festival at the HACC- Harrisburg Campus on Saturday, June 5.
The story of Fern, Wilbur the pig, a little gray spider named Charlotte and all the other endearing barnyard characters unfolds at 1 p.m. in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center theatre.
The $5 contribution for the performance will go toward the Meghan Freas Memorial Scholarship at HACC. The scholarship provides financial assistance to theatre majors for travel with HACC’s international study program to London focusing on theatre. Freas was a HACC student who passed away two years ago from complications resulting from a vehicle accident.
"Theatre was very important to Meghan, and the scholarship reflects her passions,” said Brenda Eppley, director of “Charlotte’s Web” and HACC professor of theatre. “Our goal is to build the endowment so that more scholarships may be awarded on an annual basis in Meghan's name.”
Even if it is not possible to attend the production, patrons are encouraged to either purchase a ticket or make a donation to the award fund.
"You can sponsor a child by purchasing a ticket and our staff will make certain that tickets goes to a child who may not be able to afford the cost of attending the production,” Eppley said. “Any amount given beyond the suggested $5 per ticket donation can be taken as a tax deduction."
Following each performance, the audience will have an opportunity to meet the costumed actors and ask questions related to the production, as well as take photographs and receive autographs.
Tickets are available at HACC’s Box Office at 231-ROSE (7673) or the day of the performance. The 70-minute production is not recommended for those under the age of 5.
In addition to the June 5 performance of “Charlotte’s Web,” HACC and Central Penn Parent magazine are hosting the free summer festival for families from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Exhibits, games, activities and entertainment stages will be set up throughout the Harrisburg Campus.
