HARRISBURG – A terrific pig named Wilbur and the spider who befriends him are brought to life in the play, “Charlotte’s Web,” performed by HACC’s Theatre for Young People on Saturday, April 17. The group offers two public performances at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center theatre on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
Joseph Robinette’s play is based on the novel by E.B. White and will be directed by Brenda C. Eppley, professor of theatre and director of the Theatre for Young People program. The troupe will spend the week leading up to Saturday’s matinees performing for school groups in kindergarten through fifth grade.
“This year’s play promises to bring E.B. White’s classic story to life with beautiful visual elements and memorable performances. Named by The Children’s Literature Association as ‘the best American children’s book of the past two hundred years,’” Eppley said. “TYP’s Charlotte’s Web is not to be missed.”
Following each performance, the audience will have an opportunity to meet the costumed actors and ask questions related to the production, as well as take photographs and receive autographs.
The story revolves around Charlotte, a barn’s resident spider, who develops a plan to save Wilbur when he faces a future similar to that of most farm pigs. Along the way are the mad-cap and endearing farm animals and their journey of selfless love, bravery and the true meaning of friendship.
Tickets are $8 and are available at HACC’s Box Office at 231-ROSE (7673). The 70-minute production is not recommended for those under the age of 5.
