HARRISBURG — Live at Rose Lehrman presents RIOULT Dance Company at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, in the Rose Lehrman Arts Center on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
Rioult is renowned for his bold and unexpected interpretations of great musical scores and creations of new work that expand the definition of contemporary dance.
Rioult will teach modern dance master classes for students at the Capital Area School for the Arts at Strawberry Square and the Pennsylvania Regional Ballet in Enola on Wednesday, Oct. 6. He will also lead a post-show talkback after the public performance.
Rioult studied under Martha Graham and became a principal dancer in her dance company. Rioult began choreographing in 1989 while still a member of the Graham troupe and produced his first concerts at the Theatre of the Riverside Church in New York City in 1991 and 1992. His pieces “Narayama” and “Harvest” were danced by the Martha Graham Company during its New York seasons at City Center. In 1994, the RIOULT Company was founded.
Born into the American modern dance tradition, RIOULT Dance Company is creating its own legacy of contemporary dance that speaks to the mind and heart. The company of nine dancers is based in New York City and presents an annual New York season, tours nationally and internationally and conducts community engagement activities in the region.
RIOULT will perform “Views of the Fleeting World,” “Les Noces,” and the company’s signature dance “Bolero.”
