LANCASTER – Faculty members from the English department at the Lancaster Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, will present readings of poetry and short fiction in recognition of National Poetry Month in April.

The public is invited to the event 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, April 4, in the Main Building 222 on the campus at 1641 Old Philadelphia Pike.

The poets, short story authors and essayists are:

·         Jeff Ihlenfeldt, associate professor of English, where he teaches writing and literature. His work has appeared in journals and anthologies such as Southern Humanities Review, Columbia Review, Louisville Review, Adirondack Review, and Solstice. He recently was a finalist for The Fulton Prize for Short Fiction and has been a featured author at the Lancaster Book Festival and the Greater Reading Literary Festival.

·         Elizabeth Gonzalez, an adjunct English instructor and freelance writer in Lancaster. Her stories have appeared in Sycamore Review, Greensboro Review, Post Road, Pear Noir!, Wag’s Revue, and Best American Non-required Reading 2010.

·         Patty Hanahoe-Dosch, associate professor of English at HACC-Lancaster Campus, where she teaches writing, journalism and literature. Her poems have appeared in various literary magazines, such as The San Pedro Poetry Review, Confrontation, Abalone Moon, The Paterson Literary Review, Nervous Breakdown, Switched-on Gutenberg, The Poetry Super Highway and Without Halos.

·         Mike Essig, adjunct instructor, poet and essayist, is a Mechanicsburg resident. During the Vietnam War he was a flight medic, flying 246 combat medical evacuation missions in Laos and Vietnam. Post military, he finished an undergraduate degree from Penn State and attended Kent State in Ohio where he studied Modernism. He has been published in a number of magazines and was recently included in the annual anthology of Modern Literary Horizons.

National Poetry Month is a celebration of poetry first introduced in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets as a way to increase awareness and appreciation of poetry in the United States.
