Find out about in-demand field on March 30
March 15, 2011
HARRISBURG – Choosing court reporting as a career offers a lot of options inside and outside the courtroom. Prospective students can learn more about the in-demand and flexible program at an information session scheduled 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, in Blocker Hall 136, on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, One HACC Drive.
Faculty members will offer information about court and realtime reporting, program requirements and equipment demonstrations. Court reporters will present information about working in the field.
Guests will see how realtime reporting technology allows court reporters to instantly convert their stenographic notes into English text. The text can then be displayed on computer monitors or large projection screens placed around a courtroom. Transcripts can be produced in less time and allows reporters to keep courtroom records in a digital format.
Graduates with a two-year associate degree can be employed as judicial reporters on any government level, freelance reporters and independents or agents of a freelance firm, broadcast captioners in a variety of media fields, or Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) providers for hearing impaired in an educational setting. HACC’s program is designed to qualify students for positions in the medical, legal and executive fields of business.
