Spring courses in Gettysburg, East Berlin offer something for everyone

GETTYSBURG – Whether your interests are in history, personal enrichment or myriad of topics in between, HACC-Gettysburg Campus offers personal enrichment classes this spring with something for everyone.
Classes meet at the campus, unless otherwise noted. Among the offerings are:
“Theories of Spiritual Investigation” offered 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at a cost of $25. Among the topics participants will explore: What is an orb? What is a ghost? Does a full moon trigger activity that’s more spiritual?
“Create a Beaded Necklace” offered 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12 and 19, at a cost of $45. The class also is offered 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16 and 23, also at a cost of $45. Create a beaded necklace using Russian spiral design. Participants will incorporate a slide on the clasp of the necklace for an interesting decorative element. A kit and all other materials are provided for an additional fee of approximately $14.
Several general interest courses also are available this spring, including the following:
“Building Your Vocabulary” offered 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at a cost of $35. Readers, writers, wordsmiths, “verbivores” (enjoyment of words and word play) and “logophiles” (lovers of words) will delight in this class as they discover fun word connections, uses and definitions.
“Earn Extra $$ as a Freelancer” offered 1-3 p.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 16-March 9, at a cost of $85. Find out where to begin getting paid as a writer, where to look for long-term projects, and where to find, approach, win and keep clients.
“The Power of Color” offered 1-3 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 3-24, at a cost of $85. The class also is offered 7-9 p.m. Mondays, Feb. 21-March 14, also for $85. Discover how to use color to improve your health, alter your emotional state, change your mood and boost your morale. You’ll also learn easy techniques using color to incorporate for balance, harmony, less stress and more success.
“Self-Publishing Your Book” offered 7-9 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 17-March 3, at a cost of $65. Learn the pros, cons and mechanics of self-publishing and whether it is appropriate for your project. Explore the differences between self-publishing, vanity publishing, and lightning press.
HACC-Gettysburg Campus also offers a number of continuing education courses at the East Berlin Area Community Center, including these:
“Pyramid Packages” offered 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at a cost of $25. First used in Sweden, this unique way of packaging is used in Japan as a form of gift-wrapping, as well as other functional uses. In this min-workshop, students will use decorative papers to create pyramid-like packages that can be filled with small items as a gift or simply used as a hanging ornament. A materials fee of $4 will be collected in class.
“Mary Jameson” offered 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at a cost of $25. On April 5, 1758, Thomas and Jane Jameson’s homestead was plundered by Shawnee and Frenchmen at dawn, and the family was captured and taken West. The family was murdered during the march, but 16-year-old Mary was spared and later adopted by two Seneca women. Several opportunities arose for Mary to return to her former world, but she refused. Learn about this amazing woman’s story of sorrows and triumphs.
