HARRISBURG – Oscar Wilde’s “The Importance of Being Earnest,” the playwright’s “trivial comedy for serious people,” will be presented by HACC TheatreWorks at Rose Lehrman Arts Center on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.

Wilde’s witty tour de force on the observations of life, true identity and last-minute revelations add up to an evening of fun and laughter. The curtain goes up in RALC’s Studio Theatre at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28 and 29, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30.

 “‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ was written, for all intents and purposes, as a joke, albeit an extremely funny one, playing on the meaning or importance of ones name in society,” said Marnie Brennan, artistic director and HACC theatre professor. “Its original four acts were pared down to three and within that ‘joke’ there resides Oscar Wilde, with all of his colorful, and often controversial, attitudes toward life.”

The cast includes Sean Hackman as Algernon Moncrieff, Ben Forer as John “Jack” Worthing, Vida Joines as the Honorable Gwendolen Fairfax, Paul Foltz as Lady Bracknell, Christina Shindel as Cecily Cardew, Joshua Dieter as the Rev. Dr. Chasuble, Jennette Harrison as Laetitia Prism, Bobby Muir as Lane, The Butler, and Nick Juliana as Merriman, The Butler.

The production crew includes Ben Rand, stage manager; Dave Olmsted, set designer; Paul Foltz, costume designer; Lori Friedlander, lighting designer; Tamara Heagy, sound designer; Teresa Hoffman, properties; and Diane Rothrock, hair stylist.
