HARRISBURG – “The Garden,” a 2009 Academy Award nominee for Best Documentary Feature, is the highlight of Slow Food Harrisburg’s second annual film fest from 5:30-10 p.m. Friday, April 15, at HACC’s Midtown 2, 1500 N. Third St.

The fest includes a farmstead dinner at 5:30 p.m., film screening at 6:30 p.m. that includes a vintage “Popeye” cartoon, reception and post-film dialog at 8 p.m., and a ukulele concert by Victoria Vox at 9 p.m.

The documentary is about a 14-acre community garden that rose from the ashes of the Los Angeles riots and is now threatened by bulldozers. It received Best Documentary awards from the American Film Institute-Discovery Channel Silverdocs Documentary Festival and the Florida Film Festival.

Tickets for the farmstead dinner are $10 for Slow Food members and students, and $12 for all others. The dinner will be served in the café in Midtown 2.

Tickets for the film are $5 each. The film will be shown in Room 118 in Midtown 2.

Both the dinner and the film are cash only; pay at the door.

The reception, which is included in the price of the film ticket, will be held across the street at the Green Center of Central Pennsylvania. The free ukulele concert will be held at the Midtown Scholar Bookstore, 1302 N. Third St.
