Watercolors by Gettysburg artist featured at HACC-Gettysburg Campus
Community invited to artist’s reception Feb. 21, exhibit open through March 4

GETTYSBURG – “Totaled,” an exhibit of abstract watercolors by Gettysburg artist Adrian Sauers, is featured through March 4 in the gallery hallway at the Gettysburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College. Sauers’ works captures the textures and colors in unexpected objects such as rusted metal fence posts, stacks of wooden boards and junked automobiles.
A concurrent exhibit in recognition of national Black History Month highlights portraits and stories of African women by Adams County artist Caroline Jones.
The community is invited to meet both artists and hear about their work at a reception from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at the campus, 731 Old Harrisburg Road.
Sauers works primarily in watercolor and says that his images “contain both manmade and organic properties.” Although the subjects in some of his pieces may be easily recognizable, others fall deeply into the abstract.
“This abstract nature found in the majority of my work can be attributed to economic paint application, disorienting perspective and disregard of actual scale,” Sauers said. “The economy, urban decay and the mundane have all been issues that have inspired my work.”
He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting from Kutztown University in 2007, and his work has been featured in solo and group shows, juried exhibitions and galleries in the Mid-Atlantic region. He is curator and art director at The Finer Edge Gallery at the Ragged Edge Coffee House in Gettysburg and has also served as curator at Gunnar Galleries in the historic Sewing Factory in Gettysburg. His future plans are to attend graduate school in art, pursue more art shows, and continue to explore curatorial work.
