HACC's Fenêtre Gallery hosts "Still Point" exhibit

HACC's Fenêtre Gallery - "Still Point" exhibit
Public invited to reception Jan. 18
Dec. 22, 2012
HARRISBURG – “Still Point,” an exhibit by Mary Lou Cummings and daughters, Linda and Pam, will be on display Friday, Jan. 18- Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, in the Fenêtre Gallery at HACC’s Midtown 2.
The public is invited to a reception for the artists on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. during Harrisburg’s 3rd in the Burg.
The family artists use different media to connect to the natural world. Mary Lou paints outdoors on location, while Linda and Pam work in photography and ceramics, respectively. Their combined exhibit takes its name from a phrase in T.S. Eliot’s poem, “Four Quartets.”

“At the still point of the turning world.
Neither flesh nor fleshless;
Neither from nor towards;
at the still point, there the dance is…”

            All three Cummings bring extensive credentials to their work.
            Linda’s photography, including shimmering photos of water and nature, is seen in many private and museum collections, including the National Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian, Bronx Museum of Art and Brooklyn Museum of Art. She also has taught at the International Center of Photography in New York City.
Mary Lou has studied extensively with nationally recognized artists throughout the United States. She exhibits her paintings throughout the Lehigh Valley at universities, colleges, galleries and museums.  Her work is included in private and corporate collections in the U.S. and abroad. Her watercolor, “The Nain House,” was the official print for Bethlehem’s 250th Anniversary in Pennsylvania.
         Pam’s background includes studying with well-known masters in ceramics and brush painting. Her pottery often reflects Japanese influences, and she describes her work by saying, “the clay brings challenges and is always teaching me something new…” She is one of the original Third Street Potters in Harrisburg, a board member for The Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and has been a state juried member for the Guild since 1989.
Fenêtre Gallery is on the second floor of HACC’s Midtown 2 at 1500 N. Third St., Harrisburg. Entrance to the building is on Reily Street. The gallery is open Wednesdays from 4-6 p.m. and the third Friday of the month from 6-8 p.m., or by appointment. Events are free and open to the public.
