Community invited to join students, faculty, staff on April 26

YORK – The public is invited to attend Heritage Day 2012, a celebration of the ethnic and cultural diversity among HACC’s York Campus students, who represent more than 60 different countries.
A variety of activities are planned for this free event at the campus from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in the Arthur J. Glatfelter Community Room in the Cytec building, 2161 Pennsylvania Ave.
Festivities begin at 11 a.m. with a history of Zumba followed by an abbreviated lesson.
Performers Christopher and John Seligman’s “Music From ’Round the World” will include a potpourri of indigenous music from across the globe. This multi-talented duo will share the music by playing a variety of instruments, including guitar, harmonica, mandolin, ukulele, bodhran (Irish frame drum), riq (traditional tambourine used in Arabian music), tabla (Indian drum), cajon (a percussion instrument originally from Peru), cymbals, and gongs.
Other activities will include a country scavenger hunt and an origami station.
Cultural heritage displays will include Eastern European Jewish heritage, Old Order Amish traditions, and German art and books; spiritual heritage including Jehovah's Witnesses; and Haitian heritage.
Lots of foods will be available for sampling: Spanish, Greek, Japanese, Latin America, Vietnam, and Indian curry dishes.
Members of the campus Diversity Affairs Committee are coordinating the event.
