Dispose of paper, CDs while helping to raise scholarship money
Sept. 1, 2012
YORK – Got any papers or CDs that you would like to have shredded? If so, the York Campus of HACC is the place to be on Saturday, Sept. 15.
The campus is holding a Shredding Event from 8 a.m.-noon in the Student Parking Lot at the rear of the Leader building, 2010 Pennsylvania Ave.
The event is free but limited to one carload of paper and CDs only (no videotapes, etc.) The items will be shredded on site by Cintas, a professional services company that offers document shredding. A certificate of destruction can be provided if needed.
Cintas approached the York Campus about holding a shredding event because the company had an interest in doing a community outreach event, said David Satterlee, campus dean, student affairs at HACC-York Campus, who hopes the event will also build visibility for the local campus.
“By promoting with townships, we anticipate a sizable crowd and having all those people see the HACC campus will be good for us,” he said.
The shredded paper will be sold to a recycling company and the money will be given to the York Scholarship Fund to benefit HACC students at the York Campus, Satterlee said.
Donations will also be accepted at the time of the event for the scholarship fund, said Russ Daubert, service manager at Cintas, which recently opened a facility at 11 Smile Way, near Pennsylvania Avenue.
Cintas volunteers their time and resources and will not make anything from the event, Daubert said. “We are located very near the York Campus of HACC and we hope to let people know we’re here while helping them out with a free service at the same time,” he said.
