HACC’s Gettysburg Campus Launches Mechatronic Certificate Program Individuals passionate for mechanical and electrical engineering can now complete a two-semester program
HACC is expanding its programs at the Gettysburg Campus. Starting in fall 2015, students can earn a certificate in mechatronics in only two terms.
The Mechatronics Certificate Program is a combination of mechanical and electrical engineering, which prepares students for jobs in installation, repair or maintenance of electrical, mechanical and/or computerized equipment.
The classes at HACC’s Gettysburg Campus will offer the required hands-on experience needed by technicians working on automated equipment with mechanical, electrical, fluid and control systems.
“Adams County and Hanover are strong manufacturing communities with manufacturing making up approximately 19 percent of the workforce. By offering this program at the Gettysburg Campus, we are providing new opportunities for the area,” said Shannon Harvey, vice president of HACC’s Gettysburg Campus.
The program will complement HACC’s Introduction to Manufacturing Program, which is a partnership between the local high schools and the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce. It’s designed to educate high school seniors about today’s manufacturing environment and career options in manufacturing. High school students who complete the Introduction to Manufacturing program can enter the Mechatronics Certificate Program with three elective credits.

HACC’s Theatre for Young People Presents ‘And Then They Came for Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank’
HACC's Theatre for Young People presents “And Then They Came for Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank,” on April 18, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the Rose Lehrman Arts Center on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC.
“And Then They Came for Me” is written by James Still, and is a winner of the American Alliance for Theatre and Education Distinguished Plays Award. Theatre for Young People’s performance is directed by Brenda Eppley, HACC theatre program lead.
“And Then They Came for Me” is a multimedia play that combines videotaped interviews of Holocaust survivors Ed Silverberg and Eva Schloss with live actors recreating scenes from their lives during World War II. Silverberg was Anne Frank’s first boyfriend, and Frank wrote about him in the beginning of her now-famous diary. Schloss was the same age as Frank and lived in the same apartment building in Amsterdam. Her family went into hiding the same day as the Frank family. With oral history, dramatic action, direct address and remembrance, the ensemble-driven “And Then They Came for Me” breaks new ground and is acclaimed by audiences and critics in world-wide productions.
The cast includes:
Savannah Aqueche as Anne Frank
Caitlyn Davis as Young Eva
Joshua Dieter as Pappy
Harrison Foster as Heinz
Neil Grover as Hitler Youth
Sean “Blue” Guckert as Ed’s Father
Adrienne Lyons as Ed’s Mother
Dallas Modderman as Young Ed
Marguerite Zwahlen as Mutti.
Tickets are $10, and the production is appropriate for fifth-grade students and older. The box office is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and one hour prior to show time. For tickets, call 717-231-ROSE (7683) or visit www.hacc.edu/RLAC.
Since 1989, Theatre for Young People has provided an affordable venue for area young people to celebrate and gain exposure to theatre. The cast will spend the week leading up to the April 18 matinee performing for elementary school groups in a theatre outreach.
