HACC Employee Completes English Channel Swim and Exceeds Fundraising Goal for Students
Aug. 16, 2017
HARRISBURG, Pa. – This July and August, Louise Hyder-Darlington, a cataloging specialist at HACC’s Harrisburg Campus, was part of a six-person English Channel relay swim, Channeling Greatness. On Aug. 1, the team completed the swim from Dover, England to Calais, France in 14 hours and 20 minutes.
As Hyder-Darlington shared in her own words, swimming the English Channel, the “Everest” of open water swims, requires physical and mental endurance, stamina and strength. It also requires support from the Channel Swimming and Piloting Federation (CS&PF), a safety boat pilot and her family and friends.
Additionally, Hyder-Darlington exceeded her goal for raising money by raising more than $2,000 for the Emergency Assistance Fund of the HACC Foundation. These funds are available to assist HACC students who are facing financial emergencies and unexpected financial burdens.

In August 2018, Louise will swim the English Channel solo.
