High school students with an aptitude in math and science are developing problem-solving skills and exploring computer, chemical, electrical and mechanical engineering concepts during the Johns Hopkins Engineering Summer Program, hosted at HACC’s Midtown Trade and Technology Center.

The course is taught this summer by Kim Ketelsleger, professor of mechanical engineering technology and structural engineering technology at HACC.

The program culminates July 20 with a spaghetti bridge competition. Teams of three to four students will build bridges using spaghetti and epoxy glue and compete to see which bridge can support the heaviest load.

HACC is the only school in Pennsylvania participating this summer. The program has been hosted in Harrisburg since 2008.
