HACC Student Honors Photography Exhibit Opens Nov. 19
HARRISBURG, Pa. – An exhibit of student photography will be on display Nov. 19-Dec. 6, 2018, in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.

The exhibit will showcase over 50 photographs by current students. The collection covers a variety of subject matter, including landscapes, portraits, still lifes, nudes and architecture. A public reception for the students will be held Dec. 6 from 5:30-7 p.m. in the gallery. Awards will be presented at 6 p.m.

HACC’s Photography Program includes a traditional black-and-white photo-developing lab, 14 individual color dark rooms, a digital photography classroom and a “Northern Light” studio with a retractable roof that allows students to photograph objects in perfectly diffused, natural daylight.

Since 1988, HACC students have competed in photography competitions with more than 2,000 other colleges and universities, and have consistently been among the top three winners in each competition. Additionally, HACC has notable alumni, including Sean Simmers who worked for The Patriot-News in 2012 when the newspaper’s staff was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for coverage of the Jerry Sandusky case. 

Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday and 5-7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, or by appointment.
The gallery received state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Artist Series at HACC’s Gettysburg Campus Continues with ‘Escape’
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Landscape and lifestyle photographer Linda Benzon will display a selection of her work in an exhibit, “Escape,” at HACC’s Gettysburg Campus Nov. 5-Dec. 20, 2018.

The artist will give remarks during a reception on Nov. 15 from 10:45-11:30 a.m. in the campus’s art gallery hallway. Light refreshments will be provided. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. 
 
Benzon’s photography takes inspiration from the natural world, including abstract subjects, mountain lakes and coastal seas. Her photographs have appeared in regional and national publications, including Pennsylvania Magazine, Adirondack Life and Nature Conservancy Magazine. Her work has received awards in exhibits in New York and Pennsylvania, including four consecutive years in the prestigious “Art of the State” exhibit.

New HACC Program Prepares Graduates to Offer Addiction Recovery Support
HARRISBURG, Pa. – HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, launched the Certified Recovery Specialist Program to train students who can provide support to those in recovery from addiction.
 
Sessions will be held Jan. 22-March 21, 2019, at HACC’s Midtown Trade and Technology Center.

The certified recovery specialist (CRS) credential is for peers in recovery from drugs and alcohol who are trained to help others move into and through the recovery process. In addition to treatment, certified recovery specialists can provide critical support because of their real-world experiences living in recovery.

Additional information about the CRS certification can be found on the Pennsylvania Certification Board’s website at pacertboard.org/certifications.

Please note that HACC is the education provider only and the training is one part of a larger process to become a successful CRS. Participants must meet all of the other requirements before being certified. Scholarships may be available for those who qualify.
