HACC Recognizes Distinguished Alumni
HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Alumni Association of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, recognized outstanding alumni on Nov. 5, 2019, during the joint meeting of HACC’s Board of Trustees and the HACC Foundation Board of Directors.

2019 Distinguished Alumni Award Honorees
The Distinguished Alumni Award honorees are: Christine Sears is also a 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award honoree. She was unable to attend the awards ceremony on Nov. 5.
 
The Distinguished Alumni Award was established in 2005. Every two years, HACC recognizes exceptional alumni who inspire other alumni and current students, distinguish themselves in their chosen fields, exhibit a significant commitment to the College or contribute to society through public or community service.
 
2019 Servant Leadership Award Honoree
The Alumni Association presented Zenoria McMorris-Owens with the 2019 Servant Leadership Award to recognize her many years of service to HACC.

In high school, McMorris-Owens was told that she was not “college material.” Years later, as a mother working full time, she studied human services at HACC and became a proud 1978 graduate. She retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of General Services.
 
McMorris-Owens is the former chair of the HACC Foundation Alumni Committee and former president of the HACC Alumni Association.
 
In addition to many years of service to HACC, she volunteers for the Cathedral of Saint Patrick; Red Cross of the Capital Region; and Retirees of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. She also serves on the Board of Catholic Charities and the Board of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of the Capital Region.

Motivational Speaker to Share Journey at HACC’s Gettysburg Campus
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Author and motivational speaker Jeff Griffin will bring his inspiring journey to overcome a heartbreaking setback to HACC’s Gettysburg Campus on Dec. 3, 2019.

This free event is open to the public and will feature:
  • 11 a.m. – Keynote speech by Griffin, the author of “I’mpossible: Desire, Dream, Do,” in the Robert C. Hoffman Community Room
  • Noon – A resource fair and book signing in the community room and adjacent HUB
  • 1 p.m. – Workshop lunch open to students and members of the community who have read Griffin’s book. Space is limited and advance registration is required.
Griffin shares his heartbreaking story of becoming paralyzed after a 40-foot fall while painting a barn during college.

His dreams of playing in the NFL were crushed, along with his L1 vertebrae. He speaks of depression and anxiety of his new fate in a wheelchair. 

Through faith and family, Griffin then comes to realize that he can still reach his goal of being an athlete and walking again, but by using a different path.

Griffin inspires others to look at life through a different lens and still achieve their goals. 

Griffin’s appearance is sponsored by a $2,000 grant from Wellspan.

‘America’s Got Talent’ Finalists Bring Holiday Music to HACC
HARRISBURG, Pa. – The “Billboard”-charting quartet Sons of Serendip will bring “A Holiday Performance” to Live at Rose Lehrman on Dec. 3, 2019, at 7:30 p.m. on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
 
Sons of Serendip consists of a harpist, cellist, pianist and lead vocalist. The quartet was a finalist on Season Nine of “America’s Got Talent,” gaining popularity by offering fresh interpretations of popular music. Since the talent competition, Sons of Serendip has toured nationally, lighting up audiences with their creative and emotionally stirring arrangements and original compositions.
