HACC Recognized for Inclusion, Diversity and Equity
HARRISBURG, Pa. – HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, has been awarded the 2019 Charles Kennedy Equity Award by the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT).
In August 2019, HACC was one of three recipients of the 2019 ACCT Regional Equity Awards, along with Oakton Community College in Des Plaines, Illinois, and Pima Community College District in Tucson, Arizona.
HACC was selected during the national conference Oct. 16-19 to receive the national Charles Kennedy Equity Award.
The award affirms HACC’s commitment to cultivating an environment that promotes the access, retention and success of underrepresented and underserved students and employees. Criteria for the award included access and completion efforts for underrepresented and underserved students; increased diversity among employees; leadership representation; and community engagement and outreach efforts for underrepresented and underserved populations.
“Community colleges are uniquely committed to open-access, high-quality higher education for all Americans, as well as a vital pipeline to the jobs that support communities and keep our country going strong,” said Dawn Erlandson, ACCT chair and Minnesota State Colleges and Universities trustee. “This year's regional awardees represent the most outstanding people and programs across this great nation.”
“The award is a testament to the Trustees’ vision, the dedication of the HACC teaching and learning community and a reflection of the students we are privileged to serve. This award fortifies the efforts of the College community who dedicated time, talent and passion to making HACC a more inclusive and equitable teaching and learning environment for all,” said HACC President John J. “Ski” Sygielski, Ed.D.
