“Other Worlds/Future Worlds” Coming to Central Pennsylvania
 
LANCASTER, Pa. – Mitchell Davidson Bentley, of Harrisburg, is bringing his art exhibit, “Other Worlds/Future Worlds: Digital Works on Paper and Canvas,” to the Art Space at HACC’s Lancaster Campus. The art exhibit runs from Sept. 9-Oct. 23, 2019.
 
Bentley, who was named after the first female astronomer, his great grandaunt, Maria Mitchell, turned his love of science, science fiction and painting into a career in fine art and illustration. His work has been published domestically and internationally as cover art for books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, posters, trading cards, newspapers and fine art editions. Additionally, he has appeared as Artist Guest of Honor at over 20 science fiction conventions and won over 55 awards.
 
Today, Bentley provides design and pre-press services for small press and directly to authors through Atomic Fly Studios. He markets 2D artwork through the site and at science fiction conventions across the United States. 
 
Bentley earned a master’s degree in arts and a bachelor’s degree in humanities, both from The Pennsylvania State University.
 
The Art Space is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A reception for the artist will be held on Sept. 11 from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

Internationally Known Potters Show Work at HACC
 
HARRISBURG, Pa. - Ceramic works by Carolanne Currier and Jack Troy will be on display Sept. 3-Oct. 3, 2019, in the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery on the Harrisburg Campus of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College.
 
Currier, of Huntingdon, has been a full-time potter for over 10 years. She enjoys atmospheric firings and uses both wood and gas kilns to achieve desired looks on functional and decorative pieces. She is currently developing clay bodies that are responsive to the soda-firing technique. Her work has been published in ceramic magazines and exhibited in national and international shows. Currier earned her bachelor’s degree in art from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida.
 
Troy is a teacher, potter and writer. He has led over 230 workshops for potters at colleges, universities and art centers in the U.S. and abroad. His career has taken him to 13 countries, and his work is displayed in many private and public collections, including the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.; Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Japan; Auckland Museum of Art in New Zealand; and the Kalamazoo Institute of Art in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
 
The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts has awarded Troy two Craft Fellowships for his work in ceramics. In 2012, he received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the National Council for Education in Ceramic Arts.
 
Currier and Troy will discuss their works Sept. 5, 2019, at 5:30 p.m. in Whitaker Hall, Room 214, with a reception immediately following in the gallery. 
 
The reception and exhibit are free and open to the public.
 
The gallery received state arts funding support through a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and from the National Endowment for the Arts.
