During this challenging time, we want to thank and recognize some of the many HACC employees, students and others who are making a difference. The hero of this story is Anju Singh, Ph.D., an adjunct faculty member at HACC.
 
HARRISBURG, Pa. – Anju Singh, Ph.D., an adjunct faculty member at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, recently sewed and distributed approximately 500 reusable, cloth face masks as a generous act of kindness.
 
Singh began distributing the masks to first responders and individuals working during the pandemic. She later expanded her generosity, offering masks to anyone she knew who expressed a need. “I watched several videos and read articles about what materials and other specifications were recommended,” Singh said about perfecting the masks.
 
In addition to teaching at HACC, Singh owns a small business and runs a nonprofit organization. Her own children were home and attending school remotely while she adapted to teaching HACC classes remotely. “Moving from face to face lectures to remote lectures was more challenging than I initially thought,” she said. 
 
When asked about the challenges facing HACC students during the pandemic, Singh noted, “Some of my students had to work extra long hours during the shutdown. Some students had to juggle studying with having children at home all day.” She added, “Some of my students were not provided facemasks at their place of work...I offered them facemasks as well.”
