HACC Cares about Student Success

Sept. 15, 2020
HARRISBURG, Pa. – HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, is proud to launch the Consultation, Advocacy, Referrals and Empowerment (CARE) Center to further its commitment to helping students overcome nonacademic challenges that can threaten their educational success.

The CARE Center functions as a single stop to address the needs of students facing nonacademic barriers, including child care, food and housing insecurities, mental health, transportation and more. Dedicated staff in the CARE Center connect students to resources and services available at the College or within the community, making it easier for students to focus on their college education.

John J. “Ski” Sygielski, MBA, Ed.D., president and CEO of HACC, said, “HACC students are resilient, dedicated and resourceful. However, many face challenges that can prevent them from continuing and completing their educational pursuits, and these challenges may have become more pronounced as a result of the global coronavirus pandemic. We are committed to helping students overcome barriers outside the classroom that may hinder their progress inside the classroom.”

While HACC campuses remain closed as a result of the global coronavirus pandemic, the CARE Center will provide services remotely.

“HACC is committed to providing excellent services to students no matter where they are learning,” Sygielski said. “Students can still obtain the support they need to succeed, and we are well-equipped to provide assistance to students through remote services.”

More information about the CARE Center is available at hacc.edu/CAREcenter.

Individuals interested in supporting the CARE Center may give to the Fund for Excellence for CARE.
