This story is part of our “HACC Heroes” series. We recognize the severity of the global coronavirus pandemic and its impact on our communities. During this challenging time, we want to thank and recognize some of the many HACC employees, students and others who are making a difference. The heroes of this story are two anonymous HACC employees who donated portions of their stimulus checks to the HACC Foundation.
HARRISBURG, Pa. – Two generous employees at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, are paying it forward to students.
Like many Americans, these employees received stimulus checks from the federal government. They could have used it for many purposes – including to support their families. Instead, they contributed funds to the
HACC Foundation in support of our students.
One of the anonymous donors said, “I would like to contribute my stimulus check to benefit HACC students. I don’t need or want public recognition. I have been thinking about how to give immediate assistance to students in immediate need.”
The other anonymous donor said, “I am fortunate to be in a position to donate my federal stimulus check to worthy organizations and causes. Even before the pandemic, HACC students had to make difficult decisions regarding whether or not they could continue going to college. I chose to give to the HACC Foundation, because I want to help eliminate barriers that HACC students may be facing. If this donation can help even one student keep going in their education, that is powerful.”
Linnie Carter, Ph.D., APR, vice president of college advancement at HACC and executive director of the HACC Foundation, said, “I am beyond touched by the generosity of these colleagues.” She added, “While these colleagues have chosen to remain anonymous, what will not remain unknown is the positive impact their contributions will have on deserving students.”
The funds will be used to assist HACC students with their tuition for the summer and/or fall 2020 semesters. The impact will be immediate yet long-lasting and transformational for the students and their families.
