HARRISBURG, Pa. – A recent study by labor market analytics firm Emsi found that HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, contributes $1 billion to the local economy annually.

HACC provided enrollment, budget and alumni data from its 2017-18 fiscal year to generate the economic impact study. Additional findings reflective of data from that period include:
  • HACC’s day-to-day operations spending added $135.3 million in income to the region.
  • HACC alumni generated $838.3 million in added income for the regional economy.
  • One out of every 90 jobs in HACC’s 11-county service region are supported by the activities of the College and its students.
  • HACC’s spending and alumni in the Health Care & Social Assistance industry sector supported 3,353 jobs.
  • The average HACC associate degree graduate earns $8,600 more each year than a person with a high school diploma or equivalent working in Pennsylvania.

John J. “Ski” Sygielski, Ed.D., MBA, president and chief executive officer of HACC, said, “The results of this study demonstrate, once again, that HACC creates tangible, significant value for the 11 counties we serve. The College benefits local businesses by educating and providing trained employees into our local and regional workforce. It enhances the lives of students and graduates by raising their lifetime earnings and helping them achieve their professional and personal goals. It benefits local taxpayers through increased tax receipts across the College’s service region and beyond. Finally, it benefits our local economies by generating a variety of savings through the enriched lifestyles of our students and graduates.”
