Internationally Known Visual Artist to Virtually Display Photographic Works at HACC
HACC President #Biking4HACC Raises $9,500
HARRISBURG, Pa. - From June 21-Aug. 8, 2021, John J. “Ski” Sygielski, MBA, Ed.D., president and CEO of HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, biked over 650 miles to support HACC students.
Met with high school superintendents, HACC alumni, business leaders, legislators and other HACC supporters
Raised $9,500 for HACC’s Fund for Excellence for CARE, which helps students overcome hardships (such as food insecurity, housing insecurity and financial crises) and allows them to complete their education.
He said, “As we approach the start of the fall semester, I wanted to thank our high school partners for their continued support and learn how we can better serve their students. I also want to remind our current and future HACC students that they and their successes remain our priorities. We’re prepared and excited to welcome them back to start the fall semester through any of our modalities.”

Internationally Known Visual Artist to Virtually Display Photographic Works at HACC
HARRISBURG, Pa. – “Eyes of Another,” an exhibition of photographs by Antonio McAfee, an internationally known visual artist, will be displayed in a virtual art exhibit curated by the Rose Lehrman Art Gallery at HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, from Sept. 1-Oct. 1, 2021.
McAfee’s work addresses the complexity of representation by appropriating and manipulating photographic portraits of African Americans in the 19th century; funk and rhythm and blues (R&B) musicians; and transitioned family members. He attempts to provide alternate ways to see historical portraits of African Americans, ways that allow the subjects to have multitudes of possibilities, real and imagined within a still image.

Based in Baltimore, Maryland, McAfee received his bachelor’s degree in fine art photography from the Corcoran College of Art and Design, the professional art school of The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.; his master’s degree in photography from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia; and a post-graduate diploma in arts and culture management from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.
McAfee, visiting professor at Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, has been featured in numerous publications and catalogs, has participated in residencies in the United States and Spain and has received several grants, including a Fulbright IIE Grant to Johannesburg. His work has been exhibited in Baltimore at the Walters Art Museum and Institute of Contemporary Art; the Academy Art Museum in Easton, Maryland; the Hamiltonian Gallery and Kreeger Museum, both in Washington, D.C.; and The Print Center in Philadelphia.
