HACC Medical Assistant Students Benefit from Support from the HACC Foundation and the Justamere Foundation
Oct. 28, 2022
HARRISBURG, Pa. – Dauphin County residents interested in a high-demand career as a certified medical assistant can receive up to 90% of the cost of HACC’s tuition, thanks to the generosity of the HACC Foundation and Justamere Foundation.
To address shortages in this field, HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, is offering its Medical Assistant Certificate Program as a part-time, evening program in January 2023 that will allow successful graduates to obtain industry-recognized certification in less than a year. With the tuition assistance, each student will pay only $600 plus the cost of medical and background clearances.
Competitive pay, healthcare insurance and tuition assistance are just some of the benefits for certified medical assistants offered by employers, such as healthcare systems and privately owned medical offices.
Linnie S. Carter, Ph.D., APR, the vice president of college advancement at HACC and executive director of the HACC Foundation, said, “This partnership involves the largest community college in Pennsylvania, a foundation focused on generational poverty and the medical profession. For us, this is an ideal coalition to ensure that Central Pennsylvanians have trained medical assistants when we need – in fact, BEFORE we need them. We are grateful for the Justamere Foundation’s investment in HACC students and our community. We will uphold our commitment in this partnership in hopes this support will continue in the future.”
HACC’s medical assistant program provides education and real-life experience that prepares graduates to be front-runner candidates for open positions. Opportunities for career advancement are available for those who wish to continue their education beyond receiving the certification as a certified medical assistant. Those returning to HACC to further their health care education can receive up to 30 credits toward the completion of a HACC associate degree in health science.
Classes begin Jan. 23, 2023, and will be held Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Instruction will be a combination of in person and virtual classes.
Enrollment is now open. Interested future students should schedule a one-on-one appointment prior to enrollment. For more information about scheduling an appointment and additional details on the program and applying for a scholarship, please email jafoster@hacc.edu or call 717-221-1354.
