HERSHEY, Pa. – HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, welcomed the College’s newest alumni during its May 9, 2023, Commencement ceremony. More than 560 of the 1,192 students eligible to graduate in spring and summer 2023 walked across the stage at the Giant Center to receive their associate degrees, certificates and diplomas.
Prior to the ceremony, dozens of graduating students offered previews of their next steps after graduation. The responses were as diverse as the students themselves:
Charlie Lapp, a HACC nursing student, addressed his peers as the student representative. Lapp spoke about his decision to get a degree in nursing after a decades-long career as a house painter. He said, “For those of you who have just begun your journey, I offer this advice: never give up on yourself, and don’t let someone else write your narrative for you. Be honest with yourself and live in truth. I’m living proof that you can achieve anything you set your mind to, no matter your background or your age.” Lapp will begin working as an intensive care unit (ICU) nurse in Ephrata.
Please visit the spring 2023 Commencement webpage to learn about additional Commencement participants, including Jonathan W. DeYoung, M.A., faculty representative; Roderick L. Lee, MBA, MSIS, Ph.D., alumni speaker; and Thomas Carter, mace bearer.
