Partnership with Johnson Controls
The Johnson Controls Scholars Program is a partnership between Johnson Controls and HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, to increase the presence of historically underrepresented groups in the skilled trades workforce. With a grant investment of $200,000, funds will be used to recruit and retain future leaders through training and educational opportunities in:
Electrical technology
- Heating, ventilation and air conditioning/refrigeration (HVAC)
- Mechatronics
- Welding
Individuals selected to participate in this program will be called Johnson Control Scholars.
Johnson Controls Scholars will receive:
- A $2,500 scholarship to help pay for their HACC tuition and fees
- Emergency assistance funds to cover tool kits, housing, clothing, food insecurities and transportation
- Student engagement opportunities
- Mentorship from industry experts
- Career assistance to help them secure a job after graduation
- A HACC credential that will launch them into the workforce

HACC Programs Supported by the Johnson Controls Scholars Program
The Johnson Controls Scholars Program is designed for current and future HACC students who belong to historically underrepresented groups. These groups may include but are not limited to:
- Adult learners (ages 25+)
- Black, Indigenous and people of color
- Economically disadvantaged individuals
- Individuals from different religious backgrounds
- Individuals with disabilities
- Members of the LGBTQIA+ community
- New Americans, immigrants or refugees
- Veterans
- Women
Eligible students must also be interested in pursuing any of the following HACC programs:
Name of Program |
Academic or workforce development program Academic programs have either a career or transfer focus. Upon completion, students earn an associate degree, certificate of proficiency or diploma. Workforce development programs provide knowledge skills for the workforce. Upon completion, students receive a certificate of completion. |
